Jurupa Valley Receives CDBG Entitlement Community Designation

In 2018, the City of Jurupa Valley became an "entitlement City" for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.  The CDBG Program is a grant funding effort adminstered by the Federal Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).  In previous years, the City relied on the County of Riverside through a partnership arrangement to adminster CDBG funds.  Becoming an "entitlement" community gave the City more direct control over how incoming CDBG funds from the Federal government are spent.   The CDBG program provides funding for the City to carryout projects in three areas: infrastructure, social services, and housing initiatives.

CDBG Expenditure Categories

CDBG funds are typically spent on public service grants, infrastructure, and housing-related programs.  Public service grants are typically offered to non-profit groups that provide services to low-moderate income individuals as defined by Federal guidelines.  Infrastructre projects usually include major road rehabilitation or sidewalk construction projects in low-moderate income areas.  Housing-related programs typically involved a grant or loan program that helps low-moderate income homeowners make emergency repairs to their property.
